THE LORD’S SONG

 Glory to God in the highest for another opportunity given unto us today, to learn at His feet. My Prayer today is that may the eyes of our understanding be opened in Jesus name (AMEN). We shall be considering a very important aspect in Christianity which is “SONGS” musical Sounds. How important is this in our Christian race? Does it end here on earth alone?  However, songs are musical sounds expressed in words, it speaks directly to the HEART, it has the power to direct and influence a man. A notable man of God Daddy E.A Adeboye once say and I quote “Songs are spiritual languages that can reach beyond intellect to touch the Heart of God”. 


Likewise, in Christianity, Music are songs of great importance, they help and do a lot of things. Tailoring this down to some biblical references; when King Saul was constantly tormented by an evil spirit, the only solution available given to him was to call upon a small boy who was a shepherd (David) who could play instrument well and minister in songs “And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the spirit departed from him” (1Sam 16:23). Taking herbs wouldn’t have solve his problem nor praying at that moment but the solution and deliverance came only “when David played the harp”, this shows how powerful ministering  in songs goes, in it lies power to deliver and set free. At time, there are situation that we have prayed and fasted about, do a lot of things but all seemed the same. Why can you display the attitude of ministering in songs.

Also if we look at the life of Paul and Silas when they were in the prison, they didn’t only pray rather they also gave thanks in Songs “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and SANG PRAISES UNTO GOD: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed” (Acts 16:25-26). Again here we see SINGING as a channel of deliverance unto Paul and Silas, Also Singing can be used as a means of connecting with God this can be affirmed in the life of Prophet Elisha when King Jehosaphat the king of Judah and other two kings went to him to enquire of the Lord’ will for them “But now bring me a MINSTREL. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him” (2Kings 3: 15). Until when the minstrel could display in songs, there was no sound from Heaven but immediately it was played he connected to Heaven and God spoke. ‘If you are being praying all this while yet things did not change why don’t you try praise to God through songs’.

Does singing end here on earth? NO! It is beyond the four corners of this earth; it is a continual duties carried out daily in Heaven. “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them HARPS, AND GOLDEN VIALS FULL OF ODOURS, which are the prayers of the saints. And they SUNG A NEW SONG, Saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation…” (Rev 5: 8-9). So singing is beyond what earth alone does, even in Heaven they cherish it, the twenty-four elders and four beasts have no other work they do in Heaven both day and night than to SING UNTO GOD “And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within; and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to Him that sat on the throne who liveth forever and ever. The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, Saying, ‘Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive Glory and Honour and Power’ for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev 4: 8-11)”. If we check through the book of Psalms also there were so many places where were admonished to always SING UNTO GOD (Ps 98:1). HOW FAITHFUL ARE YOU TO THIS?

Therefore, knowing full well now that singing is a very important thing used and accepted both on Earth and in Heaven. What then do I mean by “THE LORD’S SONG”? Let’s go through the scripture together as God will be helping and enlightening us today. “By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a Song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, sing us one of the songs of Zion. HOW SHALL WE SING THE LORD SONG IN A STRANGE LAND? (Ps 137: 1-4)”. In the passage we just read, something happened there which I will be making emphasis on, King David wrote that Psalm when the people of Israel were held captive in Babylon, they were oppressed and mocked, they could no longer minister unto God again through Songs “We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof” (Ps 137:2). One day one of their oppressors came and said unto them, you people that said and believe that you serve a living God, where is He? Does it mean  that he can’t save you out of our hands?

Moreover, we learnt that in time past. He cherishes your songs so much, play us one of those your songs and entertain us maybe it might touch our heart and we consider setting you free (laughing them to scorn). But glory to Jesus, despite their state and situation they didn’t allow the name of God to be mocked and blasphemed among gentiles rather they said with great anger “How shall we sing the LORD’s SONG in a Strange Land? (Ps 137: 4). Do you know what that means? They meant our God is Holy and likewise His songs, HOW THEN SHALL WE NOW SING THE HOLY SONG OF OUR GOD IN A PERVERSE, EVIL AND DESOLATE LAND OF YOURS? It is an insult on God, the fact that we are here does not mean we have forgotten our God and who we were before. We are not so cheap, we are impossible to be bought. WHAT A FAITHFUL GENERATION!!!

WHAT GAVE THESE GENERATION COURAGE EVEN BEFORE THEIR                OPPRESSORS?

They Knew God: If you read that passage it will be known to you that they are people who really know God, they knew Him he is Omnipresent and he sees them. They knew that He won’t be happy and will angry if he hears them singing His song entertaining their oppressors in a strange land. Because, God’s songs is not for entertainment, as other do.

They Fear God: Knowing Him alone could not have gone far, the other they had was the fear of God in their heart, they knew He is capable to do anything. Just like Brother Joseph in Potiphar’s house also, he said “…how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God” (Gen 39:9)”. He also had the fear of God, so also these Israelites. They had the fear of God in their heart and said boldly even before their oppressors we will die we will die but we won’t defile our harps or disobey God “HOW SHALL WE SING THE LORD’s SONG IN A STRANGE LAND? (Ps 137:4)”.

But it’s a pity for the generation we are into today, we don’t even only sing the Lord’s song in a strange land, WE NOW BY OURSELVES CHANGE THE BEAT AND “SING THE STRANGE LAND’S SONG IN THE LORD’S HOUSE”. Where is the fear of God? Where are those that know their God? Are you not also one of their agents? It doesn’t matter now let’s just change the beat, our so-called Choir master and mistress, Gospel Singers, Who is the source of your songs? Is it God or the revised version of strange land’s song? They tell you “REMOVE JESUS FROM YOUR SONGS AND WE WILL GIVE YOU MILLIONS OF NAIRA”, and without hesitation you did forgetting that all will perish one day but HELL BURNS FOREVER. Many people who gave talent of singing have left the Church and traded it for the devil, they are now popular for the devil. KEEP IT UP THE OWNER OF THE VOICE IS COMING AND YOU WILL GIVE ACCOUNT, OH! WITH GREAT GROANING I SAY WHERE IS THE FEAR OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE AND IN THIS GENERATION?

Pastors and Preachers of the Gospel are you not bringing the World in to the Church and Saying “it doesn’t matter, at least it’s for the expansion of the Church so that it can be full. Imagine bringing a Fuji artist (worldly artist) into the Church and saying, the pivotal reasons is to bring the thugs saved, know this very well “faithful is he that has calleth you, who also will do it” (1 Thess. 5:24),  don’t help God. What he asked you to do is to give the SINCERE MILK OF HIS WORD TO PEOPLE NOT DILUTED OR PERVERSE ONE, the Heroes of Faith didn’t bring anything from strange land into God’s house yet they did great things for God and covered many ground (Karthym Kurman, Charles Wesley, Watchman Nee, Apostle Ayodele Babalola etc). The fact is that ‘God’s work done in God’s way can never lack God’s provision and back up’. Stop polluting the House of God. Judgment will definitely start from his house hope you have not forgotten? You will surely give account to the Master; how shall we that have tasted of the gospel blaspheme the name of the lord in a strange land? How shall we that have tasted of the truth bring the strange doctrines into God’s house? God forbid! I will not partake in such, I will never let the name of the Lord be blasphemed and mocked through me; I don’t know your own intention but that’s my confession. Moreover, if you are faulty of this, acknowledge your sins and repent today.

If you are reading this article and you are yet to give your life Christ but right now you are ready to give your life to Christ, say this after me with a determined heart

  “Lord Jesus here I am, I am a sinner and I have cut short your glory, Lord am sorry for my sins and I will never return back to them, I accept you today into my life as my Lord and Saviour, use your blood to wash away my sins and write my name in the book of life”.
